Soundtrack of My Life

My taste in music is overwhelmingly broad (I think). As I've said before, I don't have many favorites in things because I just love it all. That said, I do think I can narrow down a list of songs I would have played in my soundtrack of life. The list may get extensive so we'll call it a Part I and Part II. Some day soon there will probably be a Part III because I will likely add more.

I love music, plain and simple. I know nothing about it or how to play or sing for that matter, but I know what I like. I am always looking to find new artists and songs to add to my liking so please feel free to drop a note and let me know who you'd recommend. I'll take it all!

The songs I've selected all strike some emotional chord, remind me of some time in my life (good or bad), have lyrics that speak to me or are just so damn good. It's quite a cluster.

I've linked them all to YouTube for your listening (and sometimes viewing) pleasures. Enjoy.

PART I
1. Eli Young Band - Everything is You
Breakups...they'll get ya.

2. UB40 - Can't Help Falling in Love
I'm really hoping my future hubby is OK with me choosing this as our first dance at our wedding. This is probably one of my absolute favorite songs.

3. Brandi Carlile - That Wasn't Me

4. Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More
One of my favorite quotes - Love the way they incorporate Shakespeare quotes into some of their songs.

6. Dave Matthews Band - Funny the Way it Is
"Funny the way it is. Somebody's heart is broken and it becomes your favorite song."

7. Elvis Presley - All Shook Up
Yes, Elvis. I've gotta say, I love this song. I grew up listening to Elvis with my Mom, and he's naturally turned into a favorite of mine. Rest in Peace King.

8. Pearl Jam - Better Man

9. The Animals - House of the Rising Sun
This song reminds me of my Mom. She plays this on the piano sometimes and I'm entranced when she does. I've always loved listening to her play.

10. Ben Harper - Walk Away
11. Wynonna Judd - No One Else on Earth

12. Thelma Houston - Don't Leave Me this Way
Gotta have a few feel-good, woman power songs.

13. Citizen Cope - Bullet & a Target

14. Billy Joel - River of Dreams
I can't listen to this song without smiling and thinking of singing it with my older brother, Adam and our Mom. Not sure if he remembers this, but I know every time this came on the radio we all paused to sing to it (even though I didn't know the words back then).

15. Frank Sinatra - The Way You Look Tonight
Classic.

16. Damien Rice - Cannonball

17. Matt Wertz - Marianne
Credit goes to my big bro for introducing Matt Wertz to me.

18. Phil Collins - Can't Stop Loving You
Who doesn't love Phil? Pre and post Genesis I'm a fan.

PART II (like stopping to flip to the second side of a cassette!)
19. Keith Urban - Love Somebody Like You

20. Matt Nathanson - Suspended
"All I wanna be is the minute that you hold me in, when you pretend that I'm all that you've waited for"

21. Graham Colton Band - First Week
22. James Morrison - Nothing Ever Hurt Like You
23. John Mayer - Assassin
24. Josh Kelly - Amazing

25. Kings of Leon - Crawl

26. Love and Theft - Runaway
27. Luce - Good Day
28. Matchbox 20 - Bright Lights
30. Deep Blue Something - Breakfast at Tiffany's
Also one of my favorite movies.

31. Roger Waters & Van Morrison - Comfortably Numb
The Departed, anyone?

32. Toto - Africa
33. Tracy Chapman - Give Me One Reason

34. Ray Lamontagne - Beg Steal or Borrow
Can't get enough of his voice.

35. Snow Patrol - Crack the Shutters
36. Scars on 45 - Heart on Fire

37. O.A.R. - Love and Memories
Can't help but jam to this song.

Now, if I was being 100% honest here, I would have filled half this list with Christmas songs. I'll spare you that today. Just wait until Christmas season, though...we'll be talking all kinds of Christmas in here. Forewarning you - my Christmas season starts roughly mid-September or so. Prepare your jolly selves.
